Lacoste's most iconic offering would have to be their polo shirt. A Lacoste polo has long been a status symbol of those of a certain caliber with an appreciation for luxury and fine sportswear. While it is their signature offering, sometimes people want something a little more fun than the standard green, red, black, white etc.

Enter Hubert Barrere, the artistic director of Maison Lesage who is partnering with Lacoste to release a limited edition collection of 200 polos that will be far more funky and eccentric that Lacoste's usual standard offerings. Given Barrere's signature aesthetic, fans of Lacoste can expect a lot of embroidery from this collection. In an interview with WWD at Paris Couture Fashion Week, Barrere even said, "I think the most tricky thing in terms of technique was to embroider metal on jersey, because it kept cutting into the material."

Lacoste goes more streetwear style with Lesage collaboration

One of the most talked about pieces in this collection is the polo embroidered with Plexiglas panels that were re-embroidered with mesh with the slong "Rene did it first" stitched into it with little beads that mimicked graffiti. This collaboration is sure to help Lacoste find a new audience for those fashion lovers who want a polo, but one that is out of the ordinary. The couture pieces will be available for order, but the commercial pieces will be available in Lacoste boutiques at price point between 145 dollars and 237 dollars.

In addition to the polos, designer Yazbukey also designed a collection of accessories, including flat life-sized tennis ball earrings and embroidered crocodile brooches. The exhibit was also accompanied by the launch of a new issue of The Reality Show Magazine. A free application called Reality Scan, which was developed by the paper's in-house digital team, now allows for a prolonged digital experience.

Fans of Lacoste can access videos, go backstage, and access interviews. Lacoste is truly entering a new era as the line between luxury and streetwear becomes more blurred and they try to set themselves apart from their competitors. Their new offerings seem to be setting them off to a good start, and this just seems to be the beginning.
