Ports 1961, the designer subsidiary held by Hong Kong-based Chinese fashion retailer Ports Design, has appointed Natasa Cagalj as its creative director for women's wear.

Cagalj, a Central Saint Martin graduate, is set to succeed Fiona Cibani, who previously held the position for the past four years. Her first collection for the label will be presented in February. “Natasa is an incredibly talented individual and creative force. Her vision is perfectly in line with the Ports 1961 woman,” said Cibani to WWD on the new appointment.

“I'm very excited to have Natasa on board and I strongly feel it’s time for a new chapter in the evolution of Ports 1961. This is a long-term decision.” Cagalj will be based in London, along with the rest of the label's women's wear design team, in their newly opened design studio.

She previously was head of design at Stella McCartney until 2012, when she left the label to work as a freelance consultant. The announcement comes after the brand revealed plans to expand its presence in Europe as well as its product range, with the introduction of its first handbags and accessories this fall.

Ports 1961 moved its head office from New York to Milan in 2011, and began manufacturing its products in Italy. The label has over 100 stockists around the world, including Neiman Marcus in Los Angeles, Harvey Nichols in Kuwait City and Quartier 206 in Berlin, as well as stand alone stores in New York and Paris, with additional locations opening this month in Hong Kong and Shanghai.
