Isabel Marant is said to be in preliminary discussion with Eurazeo to sell a controlling stake in the French fashion house to the private equity firm, according to sources close to Reuters. News of the potential sale comes not long after a court in Paris cleared Isabel Marant of all previous plagiarism charges.

The fashion house, which was founded in 1994, is still owned by its eponymous founder and her associates. Isabel Marant is believed to have been holding private discussions with Eurazeo for a number of weeks, but is not necessarily close to signing a deal. According to sources, Eurazeo is said perseverance in carrying out its research on the fashion house and any potential agreement to materialise may take weeks, or months, or not materialise at all.

The private equity firm has reportedly made a series of investments within the fashion and the luxury industry over the past few years, most recently taking part in a fund raising round for online, pre-owned luxury e-tailer Vestiaire Collective. Eurazeo has also made decent profits by investing in Italian outdoor brand Moncler, which floated on the Milan stock exchange two years ago.

Isabel Marant is said to be keen to expand its global presence, following the major boost the brand received when it was asked to create a capsule collection for H&M's annual designer collaboration in 2013. The French fashion house currently had 19 stand alone stores around the world, makes a large part of its sales from department stores and multi-branded stores.
