John Lewis said in a statement that total sales for the week ending February 2, 2019, were down 4.4 percent due to the snow, while fashion sales declined by 2.1 percent.
The company added that sales of women’s accessories, however witnessed another strong week with sales up 11.1 percent as customers bought items to keep warm. Sales of boots were up 100 percent and company-owned brand womenswear sales were up again on last year.
Home sales were down 6 percent and sales of gifts rose by 7.8 percent as a result of customers beginning to shop for Valentine’s Day. Electrical and home technology sales were down 5.1 percent and communications technology sales were up 4.5 percent.
