John Lewis: Weekly fashion sales rise 2.8 percent

Total sales for the week ending June 9, 2018 were up 4.2 percent at John Lewis, on the same week last year, which the company said, were boosted by annualising a general election and price matching competitor promotions. Fashion sales for the week, were ahead by 2.8 percent on the same week last year.

The company added that price matching a competitor’s promotion helped drive sales of beauty products by 13 percent and sales of women’s accessories by 8 percent. Company-owned brand womenswear had another strong week with sales up 4.8 percent.

Electrical and home technology sales were up 12.1 percent. While home sales were down 1.1 percent, sales of Father’s Day gifts increase, and sales of gin were up 15 percent on the previous week due to the World Gin Day campaign. Total sales of outdoor living furniture and flooring products were up 2.6 percent on the same week last year.
