Total sales for the week ending July 8, 2018, John Lewis said in a statement, were down 0.3 percent on last year. The company added that the sales were impacted by very hot weather and the World Cup, however, fashion sales improved 4.6 percent driven by clearance offers, customers shopping for clothing to wear in the hot weather, as well as launches of new season ranges.

John Lewis said, the popularity of new season company-owned brand Kin collection sent sales of the brand up 88 percent on the same week last year.

Electrical and home technology sales were up 3.2 percent and sales of small electricals were up 234 percent on the same week last year. Home sales were down 8.4 percent, however, the company said, the hot weather is continuing to drive strong sales of outdoor furniture and other weather related products such as water bottles and low tog duvets.
