British shoppers have not welcomed but fully embraced e-commerce and its perks as shopping online saves them 200 million miles in shopping trips per week, according to a recent research. Now, more consumers shop online than visit physical stores, report Conlumino for Webloyalty.

The study, carried by Conlumino out in January 2015 among 2,068 consumers found that almost 9 out of 10 (87 percent) of consumers shop online while 78.3 percent visit brick-and-mortar stores, reports ‘BizReport’.

This is easy to understand if you think that the total 'digital distance' calculated for British consumers' online shopping trips (this includes travel to and from their home to a major centre, the average distance walked around and the possibility of visiting out-of-town stores, explains Conlumino) equals to 198.2 million miles per week.

Based on a gas price of 1.08 pounds a litre, total saving goes up to circa 32 million pounds, calculates ‘BizReport’.

"With consumers more attracted than ever to the convenience of online shopping, retailers need to ensure that they have an attractive and convenient presence online to improve revenue," says Guy Chiswick, managing director for Webloyalty Northern Europe.

Chiswick adds that "The fact that the value of connected devices has doubled in the last decade is a testament to this, and it will only continue to rise with the improvement of technology in the future. Retailers need to be prepared to provide powerful apps and tools to aid the future consumer."
