Emanuel Ungaro and Aeffe SpA have decided not to renew the license they signed three years ago, as reported by WWD today. Aeffe will be focusing more on their own brands, while Modalis will be taking over the production of Ungaro's collections. Fautso Puglisi will continue to design the Ungaro line, which will still be distributed by the network put in place by Aeffe.
In September 2012, Ungaro struck a deal with Aeffe for their line, and brought Puglisi on as their creative director. After that, Aeffe began restructuring their entire portfolio as they also saw Moschino turn a profit under creative director Jeremy Scott. Aeffe also has Alberta Ferretti and Pollini brands under their belt as well.
In June, the company signed a deal for the distribution of Jeremy Scott's eponymous label. Lorenzo Sarafini has been tapped to work on their Philosophy brand, and Alberta Ferretti has been working on her eponymous label and limited-edition bridal collections.
Modalis, which is based in Italy's Umbria region, inked a deal with John Galliano designed by Bill Gaytten earlier this year to distribute their men's and women's ready-to-wear.
Emanuel Ungaro is under the control of Asim Abdullah, a San-Francisco based tech entrepreneur, and Aimz, his investment vehicle.
