Urban Outfitters reports 10 percent rise in holiday sales

Urban Outfitters has announced record net sales for the two months ended December 31, 2014. Total company net sales for the two months increased to 785 million dollars or 10 percent over the same period last year. Comparable retail segment net sales, which include comparable direct-to-consumer channel, increased 4 percent. Comparable retail segment net sales increased 17 percent at Free People, 5 percent at the Anthropologie Group and 1 percent at Urban Outfitters. Wholesale segment net sales increased 14 percent.

“This year’s holiday environment in the fashion apparel industry was more promotional than any I can recall,” said Richard A. Hayne, Chief Executive Officer, adding, “Thus, I am pleased the company delivered record sales and positive retail segment comps at each of our brands.”

For the 11-month period ended December 31, 2014, total company net sales increased to 3.1 billion dollars or 7 percent over the same period last year. Comparable retail segment net sales increased 1 percent. Wholesale segment net sales increased 27 percent.

During the 11 months ended December 31, 2014, the company opened a 37 new stores including 14 Anthropologie stores, 12 Free People stores, and 11 Urban Outfitters stores; and closed one Urban Outfitters store.
