Designer Alber Elbaz has been awarded the French Officier de la Legion d’honneur this week. Elbaz was previously the recipient of the Chevalier of the Légion d'honneur during the 1990s.

The accolade is awarded by the French government with a ceremony will taking place at the Ministère de la Culture de Paris during Paris Fashion Week. Elbaz has been recognised for his services to fashion, which include 14 years being the creative helm of Lanvin as well as having worked at Guy Laroche and Saint Laurent. Elbaz is distinctly known for his beautiful drapery and his elegant couture, and his next move will be closely followed.

The Legion of Honour, full name National Order of the Legion of Honour is the highest French order for military and civil merits, and was established in 1802 by Napoléon Bonaparte. The order is divided into five degrees of increasing distinction: Chevalier (Knight), Officier (Officer), Commandeur (Commander), Grand Officier (Grand Officer) and Grand-Croix (Grand Cross).

The order's motto is "Honneur et Patrie" ("Honour and Fatherland") and its seat is the Palais de la Légion d'Honneur next to the Musée d'Orsay, on the left bank of the River Seine in Paris.
