Online fashion retailer ASOS revealed sales soared 118% year-on-year in the nine weeks to 16 January. The AIM-listed company also reported sales for the 42 weeks to 16 January were up 108%.

Chief Executive, Nick Robertson, said: "We have had another great Christmas. Sales, visitors, conversion and average basket value were all at record levels with the web site attracting 5.2 million unique visitors in December alone."

During the festive period the e-retailer ran a number of free delivery weekends and product promotions, which it said helped to maximise sales.

"Whilst this has impacted margin, we expect profit before tax for the year to March 31 2009 to be in line with the board's expectations," Mr Robertson said.

ASOS has 1.2 million active customers, an increase of 112% over the last 12 months. Shares in the company have increased in value by 14% over the last year, closing at 279.5p on Friday.
