Copenhagen is a city of superlatives. In recent years the Danish capital city has been heralded the 'Most Livable City in the World', and the world's 'Best Design City', to name but a few. Business magazine Forbes places Copenhagen at number seven in the list of the most expensive cities in the world and travel publication Lonely Planet designates the city the 'Coolest Capital' of Scandinavia.

Nowadays Copenhagen also attracts attention with its new status of important European fashion city. To use a superlative yet again: the Copenhagen Fashion Week is the largest fashion event in Northern Europe.

The Danish fashion industry is developing with gusto. New, young labels continue to shoot up like mushrooms. The Copenhagen Fashion Week is the foremost platform where Scandinavian talent can develop. Between the 10 - 14th February an estimated 50,000 fashion professionals shall converge in the Danish capital. Danish fashion is also popular here at home too. The excellent fit, quality and price ensure these designs from the North remain popular, in particular with Dutch women. Brands such as Only, Vero Moda, Part Two and Jack & Jones require no further introduction, and likewise names such as By Malene Birger, Bruuns Bazaar and Margit Brandt have become established. But why Copenhagen? For Stine Goya, Henrik Vibskov, Louise Amstrup, Wackerhause, Vilsbøl de Arce, Eluise… and so on and so on!

MyFashionWeek
Despite the gamut of Danish talent on offer last summer the total number of visitors to the Danish fashion exhibitions fell by around 4 per cent compared to the previous summer's Copenhagen Fashion Week. The number of Dutch travelling to Denmark likewise fell. Notwithstanding this drop the organizers let it be known in August that they remained positive about the upcoming exhibition season. In order to provide Copenhagen's status as fashion city with a much-needed boost they launched MyFashionWeek.dk in December; a new online platform with which fashion professionals are able to book bespoke travel and accommodation packages to the Danish capital. Exhibition visitors using the MyFashionWeek.dk services will reap thirty to fifty percent discounts on their travelling costs, as well as receive free tickets to the four fashion exhibitions.

Finally, a couple of statistics to further clarify the next Copenhagen Fashion Week: 41 fashion shows at exceptional locations and 4 exhibitions, covering 60,000m² of exhibition space where approximately 2,750 fashion brands will be presented. Plenty of reasons therefore to make a trip to the country of Smørrebrød and the fairytales by Hans Christian Andersen!

CIFF
From 11th - 14th February the Bella Centre shall open its doors for the 34th Copenhagen International Fashion Fair (CIFF). This commercial trade fair was hit the hardest last year by the fall in the number of visitors (14 per cent in August), yet it remains the largest in Copenhagen with 36,000m², 1,800 brands and more than 24,000 visitors. This drop could be partially attributed to the splintering off of the brands within the higher segment to other exhibitions in the city. Despite this CIFF is offering its visitors an excellent selection of exhibitors of ladies', men's and children's wear; from shoes to bags, lingerie and accessories. www.ciff.dk

Gallery
Gallery managed to acquire 31 new brands for the upcoming event in February This is a record for the relatively young Danish trade fair. Newcomers include: Valentino RED, John Galliano, Patrizia Pepe, Samsøe & Samsøe, Levi's Vintage Clothing, Odd Molly, Bjørg Jewellery, Puma and New Balance. The Gallery space shall also be extended by placing two tents at the front of the Forum Copenhagen exhibition building. These tents shall present fashion shows of Scandinavian labels as well as collection presentations and fashion parties. Just as during the last event exclusive labels such as Dior, Lagerfeld, By Malene Birger, Tiger of Sweden, Peter Jensen and Paul & Joe shall again make an appearance. www.gallery.dk.

CPH Vision & Terminal 2
In the beautiful, historic Øksnehallen CPH Vision will provide an intimate, exclusive platform for established names in the fashion world and young, new designers alike. Each year The Vision Trend Show attracts numerous fashion enthusiasts and journalists, as does the Designers Nest Award; which gives young students the opportunity to demonstrate their talents and to scoop a prize to the value of 50.000 Danish Krone. The urban, streetwear and denim Terminal 2 exhibition became part of CPH Vision in February 2009. At the upcoming event the exhibition space shall have been extended by around 1,000m². By relocating the men's fashion labels from CPH Vision to Terminal 2 the organization is looking to transform the exhibition into an exclusive segment for men's fashion. www.cphvision.dk.
