Jonathan Anderson scoops two British Fashion Awards

Northern Irish designer Jonathan Anderson was the toast of last night’s British Fashion Awards in London winning both the Menswear and Womenswear Designer of the Year awards for his fashion label J.W. Anderson.

The double victory saw Anderson beat Christopher Kane and Victoria Beckham for the womenswear honour and Tom Ford and E Tautz in the menswear category. This marks the second time Anderson has been nominated for both awards, however, last year he did take home the menswear accolade, but was scooped to the womenswear prize by Erdem.

The British Fashion Awards is the one of the highlights of the British fashion calendar, and last nights award ceremony at the London Coliseum was attended by more than 2,000 guests including David and Victoria Beckham, Georgia May Jagger, Karlie Kloss, Kate Bosworth, Lady Gaga, Liv Tyler, Nadja Swarovski, Poppy Delevingne, Salma Hayek Pinault, Samantha Cameron, Sir Philip Green, Stella Tennant and Tinie Tempah.

Other awards were given to Thomas Tait who won Emerging Womenswear Designer, Grace Wales Bonner picked up the Emerging Menswear Designer prize, while Jordan Askill was presented with the Emerging Accessory Designer honour.

British Fashion Awards names 2015 winners

The annual awards are voted by more than 800 members of the global fashion industry and they named Tom Ford, who lost out on the Menswear Designer of the Year honour, with the Red Carpet award, while Stella McCartney won the Brand of the Year award.

London Fashion Week favourite Mary Katrantzou won New Establishment Designer, while Erdem picked up the Establishment Designer, Burberry was awarded the Creative Campaign honour, and Charlotte Olympia Dellal won Accessory Designer of the Year.

There were also three honours that had already been announced by the British Fashion Council prior to the evening’s celebrations, Gucci’s creative director Alessandro Michele was awarded the International Fashion Designer of the Year, while photographer Nick Knight was given the Isabella Blow Award for Fashion Creator. In addition, Karl Lagerfeld was presented with the Outstanding Achievement Award by Vogue’s Anna Wintour.

Other non-fashion designer awards were given to singer FKA Twigs who won the British Style - Fashion Innovator accolade, while British Style - Red Carpet Ambassador was presented to Gwendoline Christie, and Model of the Year went to Jourdan Dunn.

Midway through the ceremony, British fashion talent was highlighted with a unique fashion showcase, where a line-up of models stormed the stage, each handpicked and dressed by a British fashion designer. There were thirty designer who took part in the showcase, including Anya Hindmarch, Astrid Anderson, Burberry, Christopher Kane, Erdem, Molly Goddard, Paul Smith, Sibling, Topshop Unique and Victoria Beckham.
