In the run-up to the Fall/Winter 2016-17 womenswear shows starting next week, the trend experts at Trendstop.com have compiled a must-read trend report on some of the key styles predicted to emerge in the transitional period before FW16-17; Pre-Fall 2016. Similar to Resort, Pre-Fall is an inter-season line of ready-to-wear fashion that is presented by brands shortly before the main Fall/Winter shows in February, designed to drop in stores during the summer. Leading designers from all over the world maximise their profits with these smaller, more commercially-led ranges, including Alexander Wang, Versace and Celine. Sourced from our inspirational Editor's Picks catwalk coverage, Trendstop brings FashionUnited readers a trio of directional womenswear trends for Pre-Fall 2016, spanning new developments across theme, colour and shape.

Urban Utility

Utilitarian aesthetics evolve to meet the modern-day city, fusing fashion with function to create practical styles with a forward appeal. Outerwear is designed to take on the elements with shapes like military overcoats and longline bombers, teamed with jumpsuits and polished boots. Handbags and heels offer a more feminine approach.

Soft Lilac

One of Pre-Fall's key colour stories, this pretty lilac shade has been washed out to produce a softened pastel with a fresh, cool aspect. The tone adds a mood of lightness and femininity to pieces like frilly dresses, luxe sportswear and simple shifts. Extra fashion twists can be added in the form of delicate embellishment or silky finishes.

Soft Architecture

This season, designers experiment with a play on shape and structure, creating a softer, subtler approach to architectural silhouettes. Across a range of apparel styles, we see curved and rounded shapes, voluminous proportions and layering, inspiring elegant sculpted looks for Pre-Fall.
