The London Spring Summer 08 shows were characterised by a modern romance. Designers mixed the pretty with the edgy to capture a new mood as only the English can do.
Giles Deacon showed pretty, floaty dresses with ruffles at the hips while blurry screen prints of floating faces and a pattern of bloodied Bambis added a touch of his east-end edge.
"Super romantic," the designer was overheard, taking inspiration from the album covers of 1980s Cocteau Twins.
Even the established British brand Aquascutum, best known for its rainwear, chose romanticism over function. Simple coat dresses, delicate embroideries and accessories gave a romantic edge to its functional image.
Matthew Williamson's take on modern ethnicity was an awe inspiring melange of fresh silhouettes bohemian style. The designer didn't sway from his signature prints, beading and pretty dresses, but managed to keep it light and modern in one of his strongest collections to date.
Asprey opted for full-blown blooms as shown on coats and chiffon eveningwear, complemented by the House's fine jewellery. What could be more romantic than a stunning diamond necklace worn with a strapless dress? If only...
