As the world of fashion continues to mourn the death of Karl Lagerfeld, in London mural artist Pegasus paid tribute by creating a giant work of art on a wall in Great Eastern Street in Shoreditch.

According to the Evening Standard, the artist “dropped everything” when he heard Lagerfeld had passed away on Tuesday. "When someone like that dies you have to pay tribute to them,” the artist said.

Titled “There is no beauty without strangeness,” the mural features Lagerfeld in his trademark sunglasses, high collared shirt and black tie. A red heart dripping with paint features Chanel’s intertwining C logo.

The echoes of Lagerfeld’s passing saw tributes pour in from the international fashion community. British Fashion Council Chief Executive Caroline Rush in a statement said: "We are deeply saddened to learn the news of Karl Lagerfeld’s passing today. His unrivalled contribution to the fashion industry changed the way women dress and perceive fashion. He inspired generations of young designers and will continue to do so. His tenure of over thirty years, saw his unique vision transform Chanel from a classic French house into a global superbrand. It is a great loss for our industry. Our thoughts are with his family, friends and colleagues.” Caroline Rush, Chief Executive.
