Without being effected too much by the schizophrenic weather this month, UK Clothing sales continued to grow during August, with a balance of 61 percent of retailers reporting growth .
The latest CBI figures said a balance of 24 percent of retailers said sales volumes increased over the month, against expectations of a 13 percent increase.
However, a balance of 70 percent of footwear and leather retailers posted a decline in the month.
The outlook was optimistic for September with retailers saying they expect growth to accelerate to 35 percent .
Commenting on the results Rain Newton-Smith, CBI director of economics, said: “Retail growth is continuing at a steady pace and it’s really encouraging to see firms’ investment intentions picking up alongside more jobs being created in the sector.
