If we leave it up to Japanese clothing retailer Uniqlo, all our T’s will feature its own unique art inspired design. From April 9th, Uniqlo continues the UT project; a collaboration, with artists and designers around the world to create over 700 new t-shirts a year. The 2008 UT Project features t-shirt designs for both men and women, including a tribute to 1980’s artists Keith Haring and Jean-Michel Basquiat, and a celebration of the 50th anniversary of Manga featuring designs by Manga artist

To celebrate the UT Project, Uniqlo teams up with photographer Matt Irwin to open ‘The UT Gallery’ in London’s East End, showcasing portraits shot by London-based Matt Irwin for the first Uniqlo global advertising campaign. Shot by Matt Irwin over 10-days in both London and New York City, the UT advertising campaign features 200 up-and-coming artists and future visionaries from both cities. Matt Irwin and stylist Nicola Formichetti embarked on a multi-media grass-roots search for talent, that included street-casting and canvassing the ultimate self-expression destination; MySpace. The complete collection of Matt Irwin photographs will feature in Uniqlo’s in-house magazine Uniqlo Paper No. 4, in stores from the middle of April.

Photographer Daniel Jackson has shot the advertising campaign for the UT Project with Clhloe Sevigny and Japanese actor Tadanobu Asano facing the campaign. A selection of t-shirts will be available to buy at the opening of the UT Galleryand Uniqlo sores available at £12.99.
