Upon American Apparel's return, the resilient brand is opening up a brick-and-mortar. The Los Angeles-based label is officially debut a flagship store in homage to where the brand first started.
According to the Los Angeles Times, the elevated basics brand is set to open its first store since the closures last year. In February 2017, FashionUnited reported that American Apparel was acquired by Gildan Activewear for approximately 103 million dollars. Since then, the company has worked to rebuild the classic label back up to its old reputation in the city. The store will serve as American Apparel concept store that will serve its current e-commerce operations.
"We're opening one, and that's going to be like a test model store for us, and then we're going to see where that takes us in the future," Gildan chief executive Glenn Chamandy told the L.A. Times. "We either could franchise, we could open a couple more, we haven't decided yet." With the new store opening, it'll be interesting to see how American Apparel fares in its home city this time around.
