UK consumers can't seem to get enough of Dutch value retailer Hema, and those travelling can now stop and pick up their favourite items at London's Stansted airport.

The retailer officially opened the doors of its fifth UK store this Tuesday, which is located behind customs, and offers travellers a unique assortment of last-minute travel necessities. The store opening marks the next phase of Hema's expansion in the UK and internationally, as the retailer edges closer to operating 700 stores in seven countries.

With over 22 million travellers passing through London Stansted, the airport is an ideal location for the Dutch retailer to boost its brand presence with local and international clientèle. The store opening is part of Stansted's 80 million pound terminal transformation, which is said to be in it's final stage of retail completion.

"The departure's hall from London Stansted Airport is undergoing a wonderfully large transformation and we are thrilled to be one of the leading retailers to help turn this airport into a real shopping destination," commented Tjeerd Jegen, Chief Executive Officer of Hema. "Our store has been put together with the needs of the traveller in mind and therefore offers a special collection which is aimed at this market. Our philosophy is to make life easier and more fun, and where better to do so than at a busy international airport."
