Thom Browne to "takeover" Colette

Colette is ready for their fourth designer takeover. As the department store heads toward its December closing, Thom Browne will be getting a month long installation beginning October 2. The second floor will be transformed into a sophisticated grey American office with mid-century furnishings.

“I’ll always remember the first time I met Thom in his Meatpacking District studio more than 10 years ago,” said Sarah Andelman, the store’s creative director and purchasing manager, and daughter of the founder, to *WWD*. “I remember the way he welcomed me with a glass of morning champagne and the way his small shirt collection was just perfect. His vision for men’s wear was crystal clear. Each of his fashion shows has offered the most impressive experience, confirming Thom not only as a fashion designer but a real artist.”

Browne's takeover will feature over 200 products, including men's, women's and children's, as well as runway, home and novelty items. A made-to-measure area is also available where customers can get personalized suits. It marks the first time women will be offered custom tailoring.

“I remember meeting Sarah when I first started and I was overwhelmed by her acceptance of my then small, sophomoric collection,” said Browne. “Since that time, she has always been so supportive in providing both a creative and commercial point of view.”

In July 2017, Colette announced they would be closing their doors for good.

A post on their Instagram read: “As all good things must come to an end, after 20 wonderful years, Colette should be closing its doors on Dec 20 of this year. Until our last day, nothing will change. Colette will continue to renew itself each week with exclusive collaborations and offerings, also available on our website colette.fr.”

Until then, Colette will continue business as usual.
