London - Luxottica and Valentino have announced an exclusive 10-year eyewear license agreement for the design, manufacture and worldwide distribution of Valentino eyewear.

The first collection under the agreement will be on sale early next year with the company saying it’s all about “coolness and style”.

Valentino CEO Stefano Sassi said of the deal: "The agreement with Luxottica has a strategic value in the growth process of the brand. I believe that Luxottica is the ideal partner to develop a project of great quality and consistent with our brand values in high-end eyewear where we aim to replicate the success of our key product categories, including apparel and accessories. The great Luxottica’s expertise combined with the prestigious positioning of our brand are the best conditions to offer consumers a product that reflects Valentino’s coolness and style.”

Valentino has enjoyed a revival in recent years under the design control of Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pier Paolo Piccioli. It’s an influencer brand but also remains one of the more expensive designer labels, despite the existence of the lower-priced Red Valentino line. Eyewear is key because it offers an entry-level price point into Valentino style.

The label had worked with Marchon since 2012 for its eyewear production, prior to which it was produced by Safilo.

Luxottica currently also produces licensed eyewear for labels including Dolce & Gabbana, Giorgio Armani and Burberry.
