With fashion weeks about to hit, it seems a new u-turn might be happening in the luxury market; a return to intimate presentations. Where leading luxury group, LVMH go others do often follow. So with the recent announcement that Celine

won’t be putting on any costly catwalk show this season, are we about to see a new trend kickstarted?

The decision for Celine to do a presentation to lessen the pressures on their pregnant head designer, Phoebe Philo, is an encouraging move as the fashion industry is seeing more and more talented creative directors falling under the weight of having to produce so many collections per year. And this also marks a deliberate choice of the house to choose the designer over marketing returns from runway shows, like celebrity pictures and appearances.

Beyond this LVMH have also unexpectedly left the head position at Dior open, after John Galliano’s departure, for a surprising length of time, refusing to flag to any enterprising pressures until they find exactly the right person to fill the spot.

Could this be a subtle shift from a luxury group with a leading corporate image to a more empathetic position, where they protect their talent? Marco Gobbetti, Celine chief executive, was adamant, telling the FT "In the end, all we do is made by people through their talent and skills. It’s all about humans, isn’t it?”

Time will tell if we start seeing a domino effect on other brands as questions are being endlessly raised about the overload on designers and the unworkable schedule at fashion weeks currently.
