This May will see the opening of a new theatre production inspired by Alexander McQueen that will explore “the visionary imagination and dark dream world” of the designer.

Written by British playwright James Phillips, of The Rubenstein Kiss, the new play will be set over one night in London and will focus on a girl breaking into the designer's home to steal a dress and is caught by McQueen, The Guardian reports.

The production will be directed by Shakespeare veteran John Caird, with production design by David Farley and choreography by Christopher Marney, and will draw upon McQueen’s imaginative catwalk shows.

The Guardian notes that the play has the full backing of the McQueen family, with Phillips insisting that McQueen's sister Janet said that the script was "true to his spirit".

The play will run from May 12 to June 6 2015 at the St James theatre, London.

This year also sees the London premiere of the Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty exhibition at the Victoria and Albert Museum, and the release of the book Alexander McQueen: Blood Beneath the Skin.
