Fashion and home furnishings retailer Laura Ashley posted a fall in second half sales as it continues

to reduce its high street presence and increase its e-commerce business. The firm confirmed that its UK retail sales fell 1.7 percent in the 19 weeks to December 10, reflecting the retailers closure of five unprofitable stores this year and 14 last year.

However, the brand famed for its floral dresses and prints did see a like-for-like sales increase by 1.4% in stores for the 19-week period, taking the year-to-date growth to 2.5 percent.

The company also posted online sales increase of 9 per cent, helped by recent enhancements to its website, which now offers a fully comprehensive upholstery and made-to-measure curtain range on an interactive platform.
