Apple is set to introduce its contactless mobile payments service, Apple Pay, to the UK next month, which will allow retailers to accept payment via iPhone, iPad or Apple Watch devices.

The news was announced at the Apple Worldwide Developers Conference in San Francisco. The technology giant stated that Apple Pay, which is being supported by major banks, high street retailers and Transport for London will be available in 250,000 locations across the UK when it launches in July.

The service launched last October in the US and the UK is the second country to receive the service which works by using Apple products including the iPhone and Apple Watch to buy goods by holding the devices up to contactless readers installed by retailers.

So far, Apple has stated that retailers including Marks and Spencer, Boots and Waitrose have since up, as well as several major airlines, travel agents, hotels and taxi firms, in addition to eight of the most popular UK banks, and the tech firm expects more to follow in the autumn.
