London - Luxury fashion has never looked so green - as both designers Sergio Rossi and Erdem Moralioglu have teamed up with the industry's advocate for sustainability, Livia Firth, to launch Green Carpet Collections this month. Both designers have been working closely together with Firth and her consultancy agency Eco-Age, to develop collections according to the Green Carpet Challenge (GCC) Brandmark guidelines.

Following in the footsteps of Stella McCartney, who debuted the world's first Green Carpet capsule Collection last year, Erdem Moralioglu has produced a 12-look collection using reused, surplus or sustainably certified materials. "To be awarded the GCC brandmark is alone something we are so proud of, but the fact that this year it will be created by the wonderful Erdem is hugely exciting," said Firth to British Vogue.

"I have always loved his designs and his use of texture and colour. The Erdem woman has values that marry so beautifully with the Green Carpet Collections - it's a perfect marriage of ethics and aesthetics." Currently in the third year, the annual Green Carpet collection launch event for Erdem's collection will take place during London Fashion Week.

However, no outfit is complete without accessories, so Firth has also been working with luxury footwear and accessories designer Sergio Rossi to launch the first accessory collection in accordance with the Green Carpet Challenge criteria. "I am hugely excited about this accessory launch as it represents a significant milestone for Eco-Age," Firth added. "For the very first time, we now have a complete Green Carpet Challenge look - head to toe!"

Comprising of a butterfly inspired heel and matching clutch, the collection was crafted in Firth's home-town Italy, from organic silk yarn. "Working with Sergio Rossi was an absolute pleasure," Firth added. "The company is completely committed to sustainable production and it was fantastic collaborating with Angelo, which brought me back to my Italian roots." In addition, all of the external elements of the collection's sustainability clause have been taken into account by both parties. The Sergio Rossi Green Carpet Collection is set to launch on Sergiorossi.com on September 3, and land in a selection of the label's boutiques from September 4.

In addition to collaborating with the two designers, actress Emma Watson has also taken on the Green Carpet Challenge. For the month of September, during which the young actress will be promoting her newest film, Regression, she will wear a different outfit created by sustainable fashion designers. Watson is said to have gotten involved with the GGC and Eco-Age after watching the True Cost, a fashion documentary exploring the social and environmental impact the fashion industry has around the world.
