Leader in integrated technology solutions Lectra announced the

winner of its student design competition in partnership with renowned London-based luxury women’s wear designer, Maria Grachvogel.

The winner of the prestigious prize of a 12 month internship based at Maria Grachvogel’s design studio in London was named as Phillipa Toppin.

Toppin, 21, a Fashion Design and Technology student at the Arts University College Bournemouth, beat finalists, Alex Osbourne and Marina Bernere of Ravenbsbourne College, to the title.

The competition, which launched in February, provided the opportunity for fashion students of all Lectra’s UK education partners to design and create a dress for the Spring/Summer 2011 collection for Maria Grachvogel.

Entrants were judged on technical ability and the use of Lectra solutions within the design and development process by a panel of industry experts including, Sue Jenkyn-Jones of London College of Fashion, Maggie Stott of Warehouse and Rose Wilson and Maria, both of Maria Grachvogel.

After a grueling presentation and interview at Grachvogel’s flagship store on Sloane Street, Toppin emerged as the overall winner for her innovative “art deco” themed design that combined art, functionality, creativity, fit and cut, which closely matched and followed the requirements of the initial brief set.

Mark Lyness, Managing Director of Lectra UK, said: “This prestigious competition has created real excitement and anticipation among our education partners and we were truly impressed with the level of creativity and skill shown by all the students who entered.”
