Debenhams first store was recently launched in Mumbai’s

Phoenix Market City.

The new store stocks exclusive designer products at high street prices with a relaxed shopping experience. The British department store chain has ensured that this 22,000 sq. ft. store is as per Debenhams international standards. Currently, on offer are their Spring/Summer 2012 collections.

Commenting on the store opening, Aditya Nadkarni, Brand Head, Debenhams, said, “We’re excited to finally come to Mumbai and bring leading international brands and designer collections to Indian shoppers. As we offer so many brands across categories under one roof, we hope to become the one-stop destination for everyone looking to buy quality products from international brands.”

Debenhams has a portfolio of over 100 successful designers and own brands. It is this portfolio of brands that gives it the ability to transfer their department store concept overseas. Debenhams has 66 stores in 25 countries outside the UK and Ireland. It recognises the individuality of the international markets it wishes to trade in. As a result, the company adapts its stores to local consumer preferences or cultural requirements, whilst at the same time keeping all its international stores immediately recognisable as Debenhams department stores.

In India it opened its first store in Gurgaon’s Ambience Mall. It is growing at 45 per cent every month. And they soon plan to open a store in Bangalore.
