British footwear retailer Schuh is making its first foray into the European marketplace

this week with the launch of a French version of their website, www.fr.schuh.eu, which replicates the original site.

With 18 per cent of all of Schuh’s sales coming through online transactions, the retailer has confirmed that they see France as the ‘ideal testing ground’ for its European expansion, after the retailer enjoyed ‘healthy sales in the region’ via its .eu website. The retailer is hoping that the French website will help propel the brand’s expansion into other new markets.

As well as the site being in French, the footwear retailer has also appointed additional customer service support of four French speakers specifically to deal with shoppers from the site. The team will be based at the brand’s Livingston head office, however Schuh have secured a Paris phone number for customer enquiries and will provide a local address in France for returns so that customers are not deterred by expensive international charges.

Like with the service in the UK, orders will be fulfilled at Livingston and from stores but Schuh have chosen to partner with the French post office, La Poste and will use their So Colissimo service for deliveries in another bid to provide the most convenient experience possible for their customers in France.

The retailer has also planned a series of emails to its French customer database, and the brand’s prolific use of social media will be continued with the new launch being supported with Twitter, that will be used a customer service tool, and Facebook, which will channel the retailer’s new styles, brands and offers.
