British department store Debenhams has reported strong

figures for the 52 weeks to 1 September 2012, including an increase of 2.6 percent in total sales, like-for-like sales up by 2.3 percent, online sales up bettered by an impressive 39.8 percent and profit up before tax up 4.2 percent to 158.3 million pounds.

“Achieving strong sales and profits despite a very difficult market is testament to the success of our great value and stylish products. I’m delighted with these results,” said Debenhams chief executive Michael Sharp.

In the year to September 1, overall sales rose from 2.21 billion pounds to 2.23 billion. However, profit before taxes downed to 158.3 million pounds.

Among the key factor for such a positive report was a strong team of leading designers, such as Jenny Packham, Jonathan Saunders, Henry Holland, Julien MacDonald, Preen and Marios Schwab, producing cat walk clothes at affordable prices.
