Clothing chain Primark scooped the award for Multi

Market Retailer of the Year at the Oracle World Retail Awards 2010 in Berlin last week.

The high street retailer, which runs over 200 stores worldwide, beat strong competition in the category from Aldi, AS Watson, Costco, Mango and Tesco.

The awards were voted by a grand jury of leading industry experts including WGSN Store Design and Visual Merchandising Editor Amanda Carr, Stores Editor of Retail Week John Ryan and Jorgen Skov, Managing Director at European Retail Network. Primark was given the accolade in recognition of its healthy sales and margin growth as well as its strategic business direction.

This year's Oracle World Retail Awards, held at the German Historical Museum, attracted a record number of international entries and highlighted the level of creativity and innovation across the retail industry in retail businesses both large and small. Other big winners included Amazon, which picked up the Retailer of the Year Award, and Top Shop New York (Dalziel & Pow), winning Store Design of the Year.
