M&S is looking to expand in Australia. The British high street stalwart is thought

to be looking for retail spaces in the 4000-5000 square meter range in east coast shopping malls.

This would be the company's second attempt at entering the market.

The retailer has met with major shopping centre landlords unnamed sources told the Australian Financial Review.

The stores are expected to focus on fashion and homewares.

M&S teamed up with Just Jeans Holdings in 1997 with plans to open stores in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane. It abandoned the plans however in mid-1998 after the Australian dollar fell and Asia suffered an economic crisis.
