The thirtieth edition of Modefabriek (23-24 January RAI Amsterdam) will also offer a platform

for promising national and international design talent. Next presents a selection of up-and-coming labels that are arousing interest on the international stage, while Cutting Edge features high-quality avant-garde fashion for which dazzling creativity and daring experimentation are the order of the day. Both segments will be featured during the MODEFABRIEK PRESENTS NEXT & CUTTING EDGE catwalk show that will take place on Monday 24 January. It is a must-see event for anyone with a passion for pure fashion and design.

NEXT
The Next platform is reserved for design talent with a clear, individual signature that combines progressive design with wearability. A careful selection process is conducted, creating a programme of designers who have both graduated from a renowned fashion academy as well as proved themselves at the professional level. For example, the Norwegian duo Haaning and HToon. This collaborative juncture combines British tailoring with Scandinavian conceptual thinking. The result is modern yet classic design with an urban feel. Furthermore, as a result of their years of experience working for major players such as Dolce & Gabbana and Donna Karan, the designs incorporate only the very best Italian materials. A completely different approach characterises Ireland’s Nataliebcoleman. This label’s delicate, storytelling collection places a great deal of emphasis on materials and patterns, for example, hand-painted silk adornments and watercolour prints. Lily Allen is known to be a fan of this label. Other participants include VERSUCHSKIND, the denim line of the premium German menswear label Versuchskind, and James Hillman, who uses crude oil as the basis for masculine, slightly aggressive designs. The line-up is completed by the new Singaporean initiative Young and Restless and the creative young label Filles A Papa, which will fly the flag for Belgium home-grown talent.

CUTTING EDGE
This section of Modefabriek is reserved for highly creative avant-garde design that does not shy away from experimentation. Earlier editions of Modefabriek have shown the Cutting Edge platform to be a magnet for forward-thinking followers of fashion, including stylists and other creative talents, as well as fashion journalists and bloggers.
The line-up features names such as, amongst others, the London-based mens’ fashion label HLH, run by the Norwegian Harald Lunde Helgesen. The 2011 autumn/winter collection is characterised by perforated, quilted and layered materials and the application of denim, such as cut denim, denim fringes and denim knitwear. Another of the selected labels is the Dutch duo Karssenberg/Greidanus, both of whom graduated from the Rietveld Academy. The label treads the boundaries between art and fashion, with survival behind enemy lines as the theme of the new Hinterland collection.
Other participants include David Andersen – Denmark, featuring androgynous fashion with a clinical design, the architectonic Neo Dia from Australia, Barbara / Gongini, a Danish label that sculpts complex coupes into unexpectedly minimalist forms, and Michael Kampe, who, following his education at the Royal Academy in Antwerp, is currently working as a denim designer in Italy. During Cutting Edge, Michael will present his own denim line Kampe.
