Retail property specialist Hammerson, which owns shopping centres including Brent Cross in London and the Bullring in

Birmingham, has appointed former Home Retail Group executive Sophie Ross as head of multichannel.

Reporting to Hammerson group marketing director Steve Brown, Ross in the newly created role will be responsible for “creating and implementing Hammerson’s multichannel strategy”, as the company looks to drive its digital and physical offerings, while creating an exceptional customer experience to better understand its customers preferences and shopping habits to drive retail sales.

Before joining Hammerson, Ross held several multichannel and marketing roles at Home Retail Group, parent company of Argos and Homebase, where she was credited for managing Homebase’s multichannel strategy and leading the relaunch of its website, which increased sales growth by more than 25 percent in three years.

Prior to this she held marketing roles both in the USA and the UK, including a leadership role at Home Depot where she worked for two years in New York.

Commenting on the appointment, Brown said: “Sophie’s impressive achievements in multi-channel make her the ideal person to progress Hammerson’s digital strategy and ensure that we continue to develop innovative solutions to consumers’ increasingly demanding requirements.”

Ross added: “Consumers have more choice than ever before when it comes to when and how they shop. By increasing the contact point with consumers during the purchasing journey, we can understand more about their shopping habits which will ultimately benefit our retailers.”
