Profits at online fashion retailer Asos have climbed 44% as

international sales continue to grow, thanks to the firm's push into new overseas markets.

Pre-tax profits for the year to March rose to £20.4m from £14.1m a year ago. International sales almost doubled to £63m, while UK sales rose 20% to £160m, the company said.

Asos, which sells clothes and accessories styled on those worn by celebrities, also revealed a £20m investment in a new warehouse. "We are more confident than at this time last year, with both UK and international sales accelerating well," said chief executive Nick Robertson.

Asos added that it saw "enormous potential" for international markets and the US in particular. It plans to launch its US website in September and websites for France and Germany later in the year.
