After talks with Peta, online fashion retailer Asos has decided to ban all products containing

angora and is pulling all items from its virtual shelves.

Asos is the latest fashion retailer to take a stand against the cruel practice of angora fur farming, following the release of video footage recorded by Peta investigator visiting a Angora rabbit farm in China, which shows farm workers tying rabbit down and ripping chunks of fur while the animal scream.

“By pulling all angora products from its international websites and shelves, Asos has done the right thing for animals and consumers", said Peta UK's Mimi Bekhechi. “Angora production is cruel, and PETA urges all retailers to follow Asos's example and show that cruelty to animals has no place in their stores.”

Last week, value fashion retailer Primark sent out a statement explaining that the company was stopping the use of angora in its products pending further investigation: “'Following concern about animal welfare and the use of angora in clothing, the company has decided to cease ordering products that use angora while it continues to investigate the issue.”

Peta announced in a press release that while they are “please that other companies – including Marks & Spencers, Next, H&M and others – have halted the production of angora products," consumers are still “angry” that these companies have not committed to banning the products from their shelves.

The animal rights group adds that "companies that are truly committed to ethical and responsible business would act swiftly and with pride and remove any angora from their inventories.”
