The Accord on Fire and Building Safety in Bangladesh has

unveiled a new website and Twitter-account to raise awareness about the agreement and to spread the information to “new audiences”.

In the wake of fire disasters and the Rana Plaza building collapse earlier this year, the website outlines the Accord itself, which has been signed by more than 90 brands and retailers, its aims, the work being undertaken to improve safety for garment workers in Bangladesh, as well as information on the factories covered by the independent agreement.

Initially launched in English, the site will also be available in Bangla from October 23. Along with the new site the Accord has also launched a Twitter-account, @bangaccord, which will help to the Accord to disseminate its messages.

Sean Ansett, interim executive director of the Accord said: “The Accord’s website provides a vehicle through which anyone can learn more about the Accord: its work, its reach, the importance of the initiative taken by this unique collection of brands, retailers, unions and the NGO witnesses to the Accord.

“Via our Twitter-account, @bangaccord, individuals can play a part in extending knowledge and understanding of the vital need for action and the positive changes that the Accord and its members are bringing about in Bangladesh.”

The Accord has been signed by a number of fashion retailers including Primark, H&M, Marks & Spencer, Arcadia and River Island.
