Best of Britannia, an annual showcase of the best British brands, is spearheading a ‘Buy British Day’ to take place on October 3,
to coincide with the first consumer day of the event.Led by Red or Dead founder Wayne Hemingway, non-executive director of Best of Britannia, the initiative is being supported by fashion designers, retailers and politicians as a way to encourage shoppers to buy more from brands and businesses that design and manufacture their products in Britain.
“Ironically the stamp ‘Made in Britain’ has long been seen as a badge of quality overseas but less so at home. ‘Buy British Day’ has been launched to try and change that,” Best of Britannia states on its website.
The event, billed as the ‘largest pop-up department store’ in Britain, will feature more than 200 brands with products ranging from fashion and furniture to food, beauty, and even cars, boats and bikes. The idea of the Buy British Day is also aimed at bringing attention to the provenance and quality of these companies.
Best of Britannia will run from October 2-4 at the Farmiloe Building in Clerkenwell, East London, and Buy British Day will take place on October 3.
