CFDA strengthens ties with China

The Council of Fashion Designers of America has announced the expansion of its

‘Americans in China’ initiative, which was launched last year to help foster the exchange of emerging designers between the US and China.

With the help of apparel tycoon Silas Chou, the new expanded ‘Americans in China’ scheme will see three former CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund finalists, Proenza Schouler, Rag & Bone, and Marchesa, travelling to Beijing in June to present their Autumn/Winter 2013 collections.

Part of the CFDA’s on-going effort to introduce American design talent to what it calls the “rapidly expanding luxury market” in China, the showcase taking place at the Ming Dynasty City Wall Relics Park near the Great Wall, will introduce the designers to a “select group of media and VIP guests”.

To launch the event, the designers will be honoured at a cocktail reception hosted by the US Ambassador to China, as well as at a dinner hosted by Vogue China’s editor in chief, Angelica Cheung.
