Dr Martens, the British-maker of the eponymous grunge boot, reported stellar profits

in the year to March. Citing a 27 percent sales increase to 160 million pounds, the boots, which have stayed true to its subculture roots since the 60s, appear to remain in high in demand.

Owned by parent company R Griggs, the strength of its sales come after the owners' decision last summer to scrap plans to sell the business, reports The Sunday Times, although the company declined to comment on that view.

The accounts state that the directors have been focusing on "enhancing value".

The first Dr. Martens boots in the United Kingdom came out on 1 April 1960 (known as style 1460 and still in production today), with an eight-eyelet oxblood smooth leather design, including the trademark yellow stitching and AirWair sole.
