Michael Kors celebrates Facebook milestone

American fashion label Michael Kors is celebrating hitting

one million Facebook fans with the launch of its new revamped Facebook timeline that looks back at the brand’s 31 years.

The brand, which joined the social media network in June 2009, has created a special timeline that follows Kors’ history in a video montage of the labels most memorable moments, including the designer as a child model in Lucky Charm commercial, as well as archived shots of runway shows, and behind-the-scenes footage.

Michael Kors has seen a rapid growth on Facebook over the last six months, doubling its page ‘likes’ since September 2011, and in the last month it has received more than 50,000 post ‘likes’ to stories on its new colourful jeans collection, Angelina Jolie spotted wearing the label, as well as links to his Travel Diary blog.

“It’s wonderful to look back on more than 30 years with this fabulous community of fans,” said Kors.

The New York-based label does has some way to go to become the most ‘liked’ designer fashion brand on Facebook, as top of the social network chart for designer fashion is Burberry with more than 11m ‘likes’. Like with Twitter, Facebook is becoming part of many fashion brands strategy as it gives them access to engage with their consumers.

Last year, FashionUnited launched its Facebook Fashion index, which updates weekly with the top 250 fashion pages, in order to track the trends and developments of the top fashion brands. Currently in the number one spot is Converse with more than 22m ‘likes’.
