Luxury American department store Neiman Marcus has

honoured Chanel’s artistic director Karl Lagerfeld with The Neiman Marcus Award For Distinguished Service In The Field Of Fashion, following Chanel’s Metiers d'Art fashion show in Dallas featuring models wearing fringe, feathered headdresses and Western-style hats and boots.

The award, instituted in 1938 by Stanley Marcus, was developed to bring emerging designers from Europe and America into public awareness and this award has been given to those who have made a “distinctive contribution” to the world of fashion by designing, promoting, or wearing fashion in a way that influences the public.

More than 100 luminaries have received the award since its inception, including Coco Chanel, who also brought Chanel to Dallas in 1957, Oscar de la Renta, Bill Blass and Giorgio Armani. Lagerfeld also won the award in 1980 for his world at Chloé, and is the only person who’s been given the honour twice.
