Angry workers have set fire to one of Bangladesh’s largest clothing factories, according

to authorities in the country, after being enraged at the death of a colleague.

The 10-storey factory located in Gazipur, 25 miles north of Dhaka, is owned by Standard Group of Companies, and supplies a number of big-named brands including Gap, Uniqlo, Marks & Spencer and Zara.

The blaze allegedly started on purpose after rumours that a worker at the factory was killed by police, however the authorities have denied that any workers died in the clash on Thursday outside the factory.

The fire is the latest high-profile incident from Bangladesh's garment sector, which reportedly earns the country more than 20 billion US dollars a year in exports. Earlier this year the country was in the spotlight after a clothing factory collapsed killing more than 1,100 people, and last November a fire killed more than 100 workers.
