Premium department store group Selfridges seems to be going all out for its next designer collaboration, which is set to showcase

a 25 foot statue of Rick Owens himself above its Oxford Street entrance.

'The World of Rick Owens' is said to be the “biggest single designer concept that Selfridges has initiated,” according to Sebastian Manes, buying director for the department store. Running from September 1 to October 24, the collaboration was meant to be part of Selfridges Masters store concept, which celebrates the impact of designers such as Oscar de la Renta and Marc Jacobs.

But the collaboration with Owens has grown “into something much bigger,” revealed Manes to WWD, noting that Selfridges and Owens “pushed what we all originally felt was achievable in terms of scale, complexity and atmospherics.”

The event will consist of a specially curated pop-up shop which will offer products hand picked by Owens, a temporary stand alone women's wear store on the department store first floor, a permanent men's wear boutique as well as grandiose window displays.

“It’s a desert island selection — what are the things that would be the most important to me to carry into my burial pyramid or something,” said Owens in an interview when questioned about his selection for the Wonder Room pop-up store. “It’s the music that inspired me, the books that moved me [and] the art that I’m fascinated with, old and new.”

A 20 piece limited-edition collection created by Owens also slated to hit selected sores on September 1, with prices set to range from 30 pounds for a bag, to 1,775 pounds for a men's leather jacket. The special capsule selection will be available in Selfridges stores in London, Manchester and Birmingham, as well as online.
