Westfield launches cashless car park payments

Shopping centre Westfield London has partnered with PayPal to allow shoppers to pay for parking using Paypal via a mobile

device.

The technology, which is owned by eBay, will mark the first time it has been used to allow people in the UK to pay for parking, and has been implemented by the shopping centre to save its customers time.

Westfield’s director of operations, UK & Europe, Bill Giouroukos, said: “We know that our customers love their smartphones and a high level of service, so it was a natural fit to partner with PayPal to allow convenient payment for parking with phones.”

To encourage customers to use the app PayPal, Westfield will initially offer free parking on weekdays and all day weekend parking for just 3 pounds, when visitors pay with the PayPal app.

Giouroukos added: “It’s one less thing to worry about – customers will be able to save time and money with the special offer.”

PayPal UK director of retail and hospitality services Rob Harper said: “Over 2,000 UK high street stores and restaurants already let you pay with PayPal’s app, and we predict that by 2016 you’ll be able to leave your wallet at home when you shop on the high street.”

Westfield car parking service joins the likes of Oasis, Karen Millen and Thomas Pink in accepting PayPal mobile payments at the shopping centre.
