Fashion

The art of the fashion show has been somewhat lost amongst the commercialisation of the industry. Where haute couture can play on fantasy and the true aspiration of design, ready-to-wear so often presents a drab image when it's a show aimed

at the bottom line: to sell, sell, sell.

London and
Paris fashion week are two cities which produce the most innovative and challenging presentations. London for more unconventional and up and coming talent, and Paris for sophistication and the vision of the major fashion houses.

After four weeks of back to back shows in New York, London, Milan and now Paris, yesterday's Alexander McQueen show was a true vision and celebration of design. The lack of daywear, or anything wearable for that matter, proved that fashion is as much about image, conception and ideas.

Sarah Burton, creative director at McQueen, took the idea of a pod-shaped dress in white, which opened the show, and crescendo-ed into full cherry blossom gowns and exquisite eveningwear in huge tuffs of multilayered organza and fabric. It was an explosion of ruffles in the lightest way possible. Burton remarked the collection was about positivity, optimism and a beautiful future.
