The Design Museum, London has announced that it is to host Christian Louboutin’s first ever UK retrospective exhibition next year, as part of the footwear designer’s 20th anniversary of the opening of his first store in Paris in 1992. The show will takes

place from March 28-July 1, and will explore Christian Louboutin’s 20 years in the shoe industry and how the designer has transformed the design of the shoe.

The exhibition will profile Louboutin’s creative approach, together with the influences behind his work ranging from the Parisian music hall, travel, art, landscape architecture and film. A special focus will also be given to the origins of Louboutin’s trademark glossy red soles, which recently hit headlines as the designer lost a trademark case against Yves Saint Laurent.

Th
e news coincides with the launch of Christian Louboutin’s debut self-titled book, which features an intricate five-piece foldout binding and pop-up cover, as well as photography captured by Philippe Garcia. The book is divided into six chapters; the first documents Louboutin’s biography, covering his early work for Chanel and Yves Saint Laurent; the second looks at the label’s extravagant interiors of the brand’s international stores; the third looks at his shoe designs over the years; the fourth features intimate photographs of the designer’s Paris and Egypt homes, while chapter five is dedicated to the collaboration his did with film director David Lynch. The final chapter is a complete catalogue of his work, with photos of all 120 shoe designs.

Christian Louboutin will be on show at the Design Museum from 28 March-1 July, 2012.
