At the 83th awards ceremony of the Oscars, British drama The King’s Speech was the most celebrated movie of 2011. Receiving 12 nominations, in the end the period drama about King George VI took home four eligible prizes including Best Writing Original Screenplay, Best Leading Actor, Best Picture and Best Directing.

Leading actor of The King’s Speech, Colin Firth, was wearing a smoking by Tom Ford. Dressed in a design by Rodarte, actress Natalie Portman was awarded for Best Actress in Black Swan, featuring costumes by Rodarte. According to Forbes, Nylon and New York Magazine, Portman was planning to wear a dress by John Galliano. Perhaps the arrest of the designer made her change her mind. Nicole Kidman and Sharon Stone walked down the red carpet wearing a creation by the French fashion house.

The Oscars for Best Costume Design went to Alice in Wonderland.
