London Fashion Week designers Meadham Kirchhoff are to fold their company, after the label accumulated too much debt.

Despite the success of their SSS15 show, the duo will bow out of London Fashion Week's AW15 catwalk. Style.com stated: “their debts have caught up with them,” and at this point, they can’t afford to go on the way they have – their shows, known for being multi-sensory experiences, are hardly low-key. “The way the industry works, you’re driven to do all these grandiose shows, all these things that are incredibly expensive,” Kirchhoff reportedly told Style – “and then one day, the sponsorship runs out. You’re on your own.”

Meanwhile, Meadham pointed to the struggle to fulfill orders for stockists: “It’s always seemed like, ‘How do we do this? How do we keep up?’”

Meadham and Kirchhoff graduated from Central Saint Martins in 2002. The pair launched their womenswear collection, Meadham Kirchhoff, as part of Fashion East in February 2006. In 2010 the duo won the Emerging Talent - Ready-to-Wear award at the British Fashion Awards.
